Organizing Your Concept Explanation Effectively for Readers

 

  1. An attempt to engage readers’ interest in the explanation.
  2. The thesis statement, announcing the concept and perhaps also forecasting the sequence of topics.
  3. A description or definition of the concept (growth/fixed mindset or critical thinking concept).
  4. The information about the concept, organized around a series of topics that reflect how the information has been divided up. Express each topic in the topic sentence of a body paragraph.

 

 

Look through your journal entries and notes for

  1. An overall point (thesis) you wish to make about the concept (growth/fixed mindset or critical thinking),
  2. Supporting points (topic sentences) -points you want to make about the concept that are related to your overall point.
  3. Evidence (examples, quotations, etc.).  Decide what supporting point above each example/quotation bests fits.
